To all priests
From Bishop Calvo
March 18, 2020
With Nevada’s measures and efforts to slow the spread of COVID 19 announced by the governor, the suspension of all public Masses is extended through April 16. Since Easter Sunday falls on April 12, this will affect all Holy Week and Easter services. This is a new challenge we face and need to address.
This morning I met with the heads of all our offices at the Pastoral Center and Catholic Charities and Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery to discuss issues related to this emergency situation. We want to keep in contact with all parishes as we go through this difficult time together. We are looking at various resources to suggest or to provide.
The Pastoral Center building will be closed in the interest of minimizing social contact. However, all employees are still working. Following suggested practices, we are minimizing staff presence in the building and maximizing work at home. You can reach staff members by email as listed in the Diocesan Directory or on our website. I know this crisis will impact your parishes and parishioners as it is affecting millions of Americans, especially those who have been laid off from work due to business closures. Your diocesan leaders are cognizant of this situation, will monitor impact, and help with relief as possible.
